Wardrobe & Makeup Mistakes, Can An Image Consultant Help You?

But get distressed each time you see “What Not to Wear,” program make a woman throw out her entire closet.
Most Image Consultants, including me, do not require you to throw out your entire closet.
When I teach you to shop your closet, I make suggestions on simple alterations and techniques to make your existing wardrobe work.
Sometimes I will say, “You need to toss this item.”
Do you believe you can’t afford the services of a professional?
You can save money by hiring a pro because you won’t be throwing away money on items you can not use.
Who is a good candidate and who is not a candidate to work with an image consultant?
Last night I spoke to a potential new client. I will call her Jane. Jane had written on my contact form “Rescue Me.”
A yellow flag went up signaling “Caution,” to my brain.
I thought, “Great, someone who really needs my help.” I noticed the caution signal, then I pushed the feeling aside and contacted her.
When I called on the weekend she was too busy with her work to talk. I suggested she call me when she had time, but she wanted me to call her back Monday morning at 10 a.m.
When I called Monday morning at 10 a.m. only Jane’s answering machine picked up.
Another yellow flag.
I got a message from Jane on my answering service. “I really need your help, please call me back.”
I thought,” What’s going on here.”
When I finally got to speak with Jane I discovered she hates to shop, she already had her colors done several other times and felt she had nothing in her closet worth saving, so she was not interested in learning how to find the “treasures in her closet.”
My response, “Ok, we do not have to shop your closet, after I analyze your face and body shape,and do a color analysis, I will create line drawings of your best styles.”
Her response, “Drawings are not going to do me any good, I need outfits.”
I tried to explain that before I took her shopping, I wanted to know exactly what colors and styles flattered her, so I could quickly skim the racks of clothing and not waste her time trying on lots of clothes that are not flattering.
She continued with, “I really hate to shop, I just need a few outfits for work and for leisure.”
I came up with another idea. “Perhaps, it would be worthwhile to have some pieces made for you.”
“I don’t have time for fittings, I just need to shop for some clothes.”
I thought to myself, “You just said you really hate shopping, and without knowing your best colors and styles, it’s going to take a long time and lots of trying on clothes to find flattering things for you.”
Jane said, “I don’t think you are the person I am looking for.”
My response, “You are correct, I am not the right person to help you.”
How I work
Usually after I work with a client, she is able to become her own Image Consultant. With the use of her color chart and line drawings of clothes, she is able to shop on her own.
If a client is uncertain about her new purchase
At no additional charge, for three months after I work with a client she can e-mail me photos of new purchases.
For those who want my services as a personal shopper
I only do personal shopping with a client after I analyze her face and body shape and create a wallet of her best colors with a color analysis.
I do this using photos sent by e-mail. This becomes the map for us to find the hidden treasures first in her closet and then in a store.
Without a map as a guide it will take a long time and too much trying on to find any hidden treasure in your closet or in a store.
Am I the right Image Consultant to help you?
Even if you previously had your colors “done,” many of the colors on your chart may not be flattering unless the chart was done by a Color 1 Associate.
