Are your eyebrows disappearing?
Your eyebrows give your face expression and help give definition to your eyes.
When your eyebrow color fades or your eyebrows disappear, your face loses its expressiveness and balance.
This is a photo of the same woman but the photo on the right without eyebrows makes her look zombie like. Without eyebrows, she has lost all expression, and her forehead looks too large for her face.
It’s hard to believe these two pictures are of the same woman.
Even with a lot of eye makeup, without eyebrows, she has no expression.
With eyebrows, her face looks more balanced.
Why have your eyebrows disappeared?
Over plucking or shaving
Going gray or fading eyebrow color
Medical problems
If you have hypothyroidism, like me, you have lost the ends of your eyebrows.
The ends of my eyebrows have disappeared due to a medical condition called hypothyroidism
Solution 1
Fill in your eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. Or if you still have some eyebrow hairs, you can use eyebrow powder.
Filled in eyebrows frame my eyes. Notice the eyebrow on the left is black and too dark, and on the right dark brown color is just right.
The challenge with filling in missing eyebrow hairs is finding a waterproof pencil or powder that matches your hair color that you won’t sweat off.
Other solutions for disappearing eyebrows
My friend Joy’s eyebrows almost completely disappeared.
This made her feel self-conscious
She was left with what she despairingly called “clown eyebrows.” They were one inch long with only 18 hairs left on each eyebrow.
It was impossible for her to pencil in an eyebrow that looked natural because she had no line to follow.
For a long time, I felt like I was doomed to suffer in eyebrow hell. I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect eyebrow product that would make my eyebrows look natural and stay on.
One day Joy went to Ocean City, Maryland to see the Beach Boys.
It was a hot day, and I was sweating a lot. I was terribly embarrassed when I discovered at the end of the day that I had been walking around with half of an eyebrow.
Joy felt desperate to find a solution for her disappearing eyebrows.
After much research, she decided to get her eyebrows tattooed.
It was some of the best money I have ever spent.
At first, Joy’s eyebrows looked too dark.
But after four days they faded enough to match her hair color.and she was thrilled with the results.
A numbing lotion was used on my eyebrows and the process itself was almost painless!
She was told that her eyebrows would eventually fade and she would need a touch-up. It’s been 2 or 3 years since Joy got her eyebrow tattooed and they are now starting to fade.
Even with the fading, Joy is glad she got her eyebrows tattooed because she now has a line to follow and she can more easily use an eyebrow pencil to darken her brows until she goes in for a touch-up.
No one can tell my eyebrows are tattoos, and I don’t have to worry about sweating or rubbing them off.
Solution 3
A less extreme solution, eyeglasses
Tattoos may seem like too extreme a solution.
If your eyebrows have faded or disappeared, eyeglasses can be used to frame your eyes.

What a great post. Yes, we are expressionless without eyebrows! I did not know that hypothyroidism could cause loss of hair. (I was just diagnosed last year.)
